Yoga and the Equipment that You Need for Yoga Practice
By: Darren Williger
One of the best things about yoga is the fact that a lot of equipment isn’t required. No machines or devices are important. All you really need for this fitness program is your body.
Different items can aid in your yoga practice and these items provide comfort as well as aid. You can get these items as you proceed in your experience in yoga. You should have relaxing yoga attire such as a leotard, tights, shorts and a t-shirt or sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Remember that the clothes should be quite loose and not restrictive in any way. Women may want to wear a fitted top for headstand poses and a sports bar for support issues. Sweats are okay but they’ll make you sweat so materials that are lighter and more breathable may be better for. It may also be better to use shorts instead of trousers as they make it easier to see body alignment. You also want to avoid clothing that will bunch up and cause distractions.
Having yoga mats is also an excellent idea. A lot of yoga classes will have mats for rent but if you’re really intent on continuing with yoga, you might want to buy yours. Mats are quite important as they will provide you with traction. Different types of mats are available for you to choose from, most people tend to prefer sticky mats on the other hand because they are much sturdier. This also helps in making your Yoga experience safe from falls. Mats provide padding when you’re practicing your poses and this makes you a lot more comfortable. Different mat thicknesses are available which are all dependent on the cushioning that your body really needs.
Foam blocks can be bought and they are very useful for students who are just beginning , these blocks allow you to stretch and extend your reach at the same time when you are unable to reach your full position. These can easily be used in the situation where you aren’t able to reach where you are required to on a pose. Blocks should also be quite capable of supporting your entire weight.
Yoga belts are created out of nylon or cotton material. These belts are used for postures that support your back and align it at the same time. They provide the additional needed length than you require to reach a certain pose when you can do it on your own. You also have the ability to grip arms, hands, feet or legs that are not accorded by your existing flexibility.
Yoga towels and blankets are perfect when they are used as props in order to support and aid different positions. Other than this, they also provide warmth and comfort when you are in your relaxation period.
The final piece of yoga equipment which is often overlooked is a water bottle. Yoga is a physical exercise that makes you sweat a lot. It is absolutely essential that you stay completely hydrated so that after a session the filled water bottle will be exactly what you require.
